The Importance of S.T.E.A.M. Learning in the 21st Century
Purpose: S.T.E.A.M. in education provides an engaging interactive learning experience for K - 12 level students in school environments. It is intended to act as a “learning bridge” to help link different subject areas (for example art and science), together, in ways that stimulate new ideas in each field of inquiry.
A S.T.E.A.M. program in the curriculum, is meant to foster collaborative-based experimental creative and critical thinking problem-solving skills—among young students—in the development of innovative project-based learning practices. S.T.E.A.M. activities: combine the arts with the sciences in unique and novel ways, with the goal of innovation in mind. Understanding by Design is a core ingredient of this new learning process in 21st century global education.
What is S.T.E.A.M. Learning?
S.T.E.A.M. = Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics - is combined in imaginative ways to promote multidisciplinary-based learning in the Common Core curriculum, or which equally supports, collaborative “open-source” independent project-based leaning [makerspace] cultures found in communities across the world. S.T.E.A.M. supports Visual-Spatial Thinking (VST) and 5C’s (creativity, collaboration, communication, culture, and critical thinking) Learning in 21st century classrooms.
